 McCoy named Freshman of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Columbus

Colt officially joined the ranks of Longhorn Football Eliete by joining former Longhorns Major Applewhite and Vince Young as the National Freshman of the Year from the Toughdown Club of Columbus. A banquet was held on Saturday, Feb. 10th at the TCC in Ohio who over the years has honored over 2000 atheletes and some of the greatest football players to ever take the field.

In what is begining to be a lengthy list of accolades; Colt has been named National Freshman of the Year by The Sporting News. His accomplishments for the seasaon include completing 191 of his 278 passes, accumulating 2,262 yards and completing 27 TD’s. The passing yardage ranks him 3rd all time on UT’s freshman list and the TD’s place him as the second highest for a single season in NCAA history and defenatively at the top spot for a single season at the University of Texas. Combine his rushing yardage, and McCoy totaled 2,429 yards of combined offense again ranking him at #1 for the single season freshman list.

 Colt Announced as Davey O’Brien Semifinalist

It was announced today that Colt made the Semifinalist list for the coveted 2006 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. The award is given to the nation’s best college quarterback, and the selection committie is comprised of a national group of sportswriters, commentators and former O’Brien Award winners. The three award finalist will be announced in November by the National College Football Awards Association.

 Game Ball Awarded to Colt McCoy by the MCS

For the second time this season, Colt McCoy has been named as an award recipient and this time it’s the Master Coaches Survey GameBall for his performance this past weekend. Colt completed 21 of 31 passes in the game for 256 yards and 4 TD’s. Under Colt’s leadership Texas fought back from an early 21-0 deficit and was able to defeat Texas Tech 35-31.

The 21-point come from behind victory is second only to the 28 point deficit Texas was able to erase against Oklahoma State in 2004. Colt completed passes to eight of his receivers and connected for TD’s from 16, 28, 25 and 28 yards out. The last 28 yard completion put UT ahead with only 13:24 left to play and that score would end up being the deciding factor.

 Colt McCoy honored as the AT&T Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Colt McCoy has officially been named as the AT&T Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28th. His guidance was vital in helping the Longhorns to rebound from an early 21 point defecit to fight back and defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 35-31. Completing 21-of-31 passes, Colt threw for 256 yards and had 4 touchdowns in the Texas victory.
